What is the Neurogenic Cardiovascular Diseases Consortium (NCDC)?
The NCDC was established in 2005 by a grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute with the goal of forming a collaborative team of U.S. scientists to determine how changes in nervous system functions result in the development of high blood pressure (neurogenic hypertension) and other cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. The NCDC was created independent of geographical or institutional constraints.
The NCDC Investigative Team is:
- John W. Osborn, Ph.D., University of Minnesota; Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology,
Neural control of cardiovascular hemodynamics
- Gregory D. Fink, Ph.D., Michigan State University; Department of Pharmacology,
Neural control of the venous circulation
- Alan F. Sved, Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh; Department of Neuroscience,
Integrated neural networks regulating cardiovascular function
- Glenn M. Toney, Ph.D., University of Texas-San Antonio; Department of Physiology, Regulation of synaptic function in autonomic networks
- Mohan K. Raizada, Ph.D., University of Florida-Gainesville; Department of Physiology, Genetic and molecular control of autonomic function
- Nisha Charkoudian, Ph.D. Mayo Clinic; Department of Physiology and Biomedical Engineering, Regulation of sympathetic nerve activity in humans.
- Michael Joyner, M.D. Mayo Clinic; Department of Anesthesiology, Regulation of sympathetic nerve activity in humans.
- Hans Othmer, Ph.D. University of Minnesota; Department of Mathematics, Mathematical modeling of physiological processes.
